Hello,
I'm Lindsay Walker and I want to share the following information concerning Statin medications. These drugs are used to lower your cholesterol / lipids and are some of the most prescribed medications we have. You may be familiar with these drugs: Zocor, Pravachol, Crestor and Lipitor to name a few. One of the main and potentially harmful side effect for these drugs is statin myopathy. This is just a fancy term for muscle pain and weakness, and possibly muscle damage and muscle loss. If you experience muscle pain and weakness while on a statin drug be sure and inform your physician. A simple flood test will let you and your doctor know the severity of the problem. If your physician takes you off a certain statin drug the muscle symptoms will normally subside wihtin a month or two. Certain statins are less likely to cause these problems than others. It is also possible to lower the statin dose and combine it with other lipid lowering agents such as Zetia to obtain the results you need. We will be glad to discuss your options with you, so you and your doctor can make the best choices for you and your health! Please let me or any of my pharmacists at Walker Pharmacy or Brooklet Drug know if we can help in any way. We look forward to seeing you soon!
